"Your i580 will accept MP3 ringtones formatted at a Constant Bitrate of 32kbps, frequency of 8khz, mono." The files I use also have the idV3 tags removed. This can be accomplished easily using dbPoweramp"
But you DON'T need a cable. I just made about 30 ringtones from my mp3s and put them on my i580 using the microSD card.
Here is how I did it: (no guarantees it'll work for you but it did for me.)
2) Start dbPowerAMP. It will pop up with a window that says "Select Music File(s) to Convert.
3) Find folder with music and select one (or many with shift or ctrl).
4) The dbPowerAMP Music Converter window will pop up.
5) Set "Converting XX Files to" as Mp3 (Lame)
6) Set Bit Rate to 32 or 64 kbps by moving slider. Higher bit rates won't show up on the phone.
7) Set Channels to Mono
8) Set Frequency to 8000
9) Uncheck "Preserve ID Tags"
10) Set the rest of it to your preference and hit convert.
11) Take these converted files and copy them to the microSD card using adapter or whatever.
12) Put microSD card in phone and go to media center
13) Hit * till the top says "Card: Audio"
14) Scroll down to a converted song and hit menu.
15) Scroll down to "Assign as Ringer" and hit "ok"
16) Assign it to line 1 or whatever so it will copy it to the phone from the card. Select Line 1 and hit ok, then done.
17) Notice it will cut each song down to 15 seconds automatically, no option here. Select yes.
18) After it finishes copying, go to Ring Tones and enjoy!
Kind of a pain but it's a lot easier than the cable webjam thingy I would imagine. Like I said, this is just how I did it. Good luck. Let us know if it works for anyone else.
Here is a quote from the i580 Phone User’s Guide.
"Files on the memory card inserted in your phone cannot be assigned as ring tones."
Freaking liars! I did it!
